Below a Boundary Error Event object associates with a Script Task object. ![](https://cdn.document360.io/2d311614-fcb7-4424-8b4c-d4d3091eebeb/Images/Documentation/9b08b740-d666-4f38-9919-0bb2f5ac600d.png) Boundary Error Event object associates with a Script Task object During an in-progress Request, if the object/connector to which the Boundary Error Event associates has triggered but is not yet complete when any of the following occurs, then workflow routes through the Boundary Error Event object: - An error occurs in the associating object/connector. - The Boundary Error Event object associates with a Sub Process object and that object receives an error from its child Request. If the object/connector to which the Boundary Error Event object associates has not triggered, then the Boundary Error Event object does not trigger when the error occurs. The Boundary Error Event object may only trigger if the error occurs in its associating object/connector. Use an outgoing Sequence Flow object to indicate workflow routing from the Boundary Error Event object if it triggers. Use a Boundary Error Event object to design business solutions when intended or best-case workflow does not occur because of a Request error. Consider these examples: - **Technical error with a Script:** If a running Script returns an error, route workflow to a system administrator's Task to investigate why the Script failed. - **Escalate child sub-process problems:** If the Error End Event object in a child Request captures a Request error, the Boundary Error Event object associated with the parent Request's Sub Process object receives the error, then routes workflow to a system administrator's Task in the parent Process's Request to investigate the issue in the child Request. An object or connector associated with a Boundary Error Event object may also associate with the following objects in the same object/connector: - [Boundary Timer Event](/v1/docs/boundary-timer-event) object - [Boundary Signal Event](/v1/docs/boundary-signal-event) object - [Boundary Conditional Event](/v1/docs/boundary-conditional-event) object A Sub Process object associated with a Boundary Error Event may also associate with a [Boundary Message Event](/v1/docs/boundary-message-event) object. Therefore, use it to test workflow variations while designing such Processes. --- ## Add a Boundary Error Event to the Process Model **Permissions** Your user account or group membership must have the following permissions to configure a Boundary Error Event object in the Process model unless your user account has the **Make this user a Super Admin** setting selected: - Processes: Edit Processes - Processes: View Processes See the [Process](/v1/docs/permission-descriptions-for-users-and-groups#processes) permissions or ask your Administrator for assistance. Follow these steps to add a Boundary Error Event object to the Process model: 1. [View your Processes](/v1/docs/view-edit-and-search-for-processes#view-all-active-processes). The **Processes** page displays. 2. Process Modeler automatically assigns the name of a Process object with its object type. However, an object's name can be changed. Follow these steps to edit the name for a Boundary Timer Event object: 1. Select the Boundary Error Event object from the Process model in which to edit its name. 2. Ensure that the **Configuration** panel displays. If not, [show it](/v1/docs/show-configuration-settings-for-a-process-model-object). The **Name** setting displays. In the **Name** setting, edit the selected object's name and then press **Enter**. --- ### Documentation Panel Settings Describe the object's purpose and how it functions in the Process. This description does not affect Requests for the Process, but may be useful for Process model maintenance such as how the object is configured. Edit information by using the What-You-See-Is-What-You-Get (WYSIWYG) rich text editor. A Process's entered documentation displays by selecting the [**View Documentation** icon for that Process](/v1/docs/view-documentation-for-a-process). #### Edit the Object's Description Displayed in Process Documentation Follow these steps to edit the description for an object: 1. Select the object from the Process model in which to edit its description. 2. Ensure that the **Configuration** panel displays. If not, [show it](/v1/docs/show-configuration-settings-for-a-process-model-object). Panels to configure this object display. 3. Expand the **Documentation** panel if it is not presently expanded. However, a node's identifier value can be changed if it is unique to all other nodes in the Process model, including the Process model's identifier value. All identifier values for all nodes in the Process model must be unique. Follow these steps to edit the identifier value for a Boundary Error Event object: 1. Select the Boundary Error Event object from the Process model in which to edit its identifier value. 2. Ensure that the **Configuration** panel displays. If not, [show it](/v1/docs/show-configuration-settings-for-a-process-model-object). Panels to configure this object display. 3. Expand the **Advanced** panel if it is not presently expanded. The **Node Identifier** setting displays. In the **Node Identifier** setting, edit the Boundary Error Event object's identifier to a unique value from all nodes in the Process model and then press **Enter**.
